• How to apply 4CM method to the GP-200?

Cable 1: Connect the Guitar to GP-200 lNPUT. Signal goes through PRE & DST effects.

Cable 2: Connect the GP-200 SEND to the guitar amplifier INPUT. Signal is processed by the distorion efect of the guitar amplifer heac.

Cable 3: Connect the guitar amplifier SEND to GP-200 RETURN, for modulation (MOD), delay (DLY), reverb (RVB), etc. processing.

Cable 4: Connect GP-200 OUTPUT to the guitar amplifier RETURN, for final sound amplifying.

  • What is the 4 Cable Method?

The 4 Cable Method.4CM, is the way for using of thenode, the delay-like effects such as Delay and Reverb is placecbefore the guitar amplifier distortion, which may cause the distortiolthe trail tone would change between distortion and clean. Therefore, distortion-like effects needto be placed before the head of the guitar amplifiern needs 4 cables, so the 4 Cable Method is named.

  • I mainly use tube amp, but for performance convenience, the GP-200 is also needed to connect the mixer directly. Is there any simple solution for comparison?

Based on the "guitar - effect - amplifier" mode, it can realize no re-plugging cables, and no switching and Amp & Cab effect. Here are the steps:

Tube amplifier: The signal of guitar is connected to GP-200 INPUT, then through part of the effect chain. After that connect to the input of the tube amplifier via SEND jack.

Studio monitors: The signal of guitar is connected to GP-200 INPUT, then through part of the effect chain. So far it is exactly the same as tube amplifier.

Then with the final Amp and Cab effects, the signal is sent to the input of studio monitors via OUTPUT jack. Now, by adjusting the volume of the tube amplifier and the studio monitors, the two

lines can be easily switched and convenient for comparison.

  • While using the pedal to control the volume, why the adjustment range is quite small? The pedal works as a switch.

When the pedal controlled volume module is placed at the front point of the effect chain, the volume will be affected by all following effects, which could create a "compression" effect. The volume change of this point will only have limited impact on the final volume output. Therefore, when the volume module is controlled by the pedal, the volume adjustment function is weakened, and it seems that "the pedal works as a switch".For solution, please place the volume module at end of the effect chain. Then with the pedal change, we could have clear feeling on the volume change from 0 to 100.

  • While using a distortion patch, why is there a "click" sound when the guitar is not played?

While using a distortion or high-gain effect, the background noise volume is relatively high. A noise gate would be used to block the background noise. The background noise volume is not stable, sometimes it is higher a little, sometimes it is lower a little. If the noise gate parameters are not suitable, when the volume is high, the noise gate treats the noise as normal sound and let it go though. Also, when the volume is low, the noise gate treats the noise as noise and block it. In the process of turning on/off the noise gate, the "click" sound is generated. By increasing the "Threshold" of the Noise Gate, the "click" sound can be removed.

  • There are several versions of firmware between the latest and the existing, how to update to the latest?

The latest firmware could be updated directly.Note: The compatible software should also be updated to the version per firmware suggestion. Otherwise, it will cause parameter misalignment during data transmission, resulting in device crash, patch error, etc.

  • During firmware updating, an accident happened, such as USB disconnection, device power failure. Then the device always shows the page of "Firmware Update/Restore". How to solve this?

When the GP-200 enters the firmware update process, a complete update is required to return to normal status. When the update is abnormal and the device is stuck in the updating page, please update the firmware again, after the usage environment returns to normal.

  • When GP-200 and an audio interface are connected to speakers together, why is the sound of the GP-200 so small?

Some speakers are designed only one input channel, but with multiple jacks. These jacks are directly connected, and are not separated. As a result, the GP-200 sends the audio signals not only to the speaker, but also to the audio interface. Finally, the sound of speakers is abnormal, such as a particularly low volume. For solution, please disconnect one device connection, the normal sound could be restored. In addition, some speakers have auxiliary input (AUX IN), which is usually separated from the main input, please try to connect the audio interface or the GP-200 to AUX IN.

  • GP-200 L (MONO) is connected to left main speaker with a TRS cable, and then connected from the left main speaker to right speaker, why is there no stereo effect?

The GP-200 offers a balanced/unbalanced adaptive output jack. At balanced output mode, there is sound on both left and right speakers with a TRS cable connection to the speakers stereo input. However, the balanced output is to copy its own sound and then invert it to satisfy the needs of long-distance transmission. This balance output is still mono, not stereo. While applying a stereo effect, the speaker cannot provide a stereo effect.

Suggestion: Connect the GP-200 headphone output (Phones) to the speaker's input. If the speakers have a 6.35mm TRS jack, a 3.5mm TRS cable with a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter is needed, or directly use a 3.5mm to 6.35mm TRS cable. Also, a Y-cable cable is available for this. One end is TRS plug for speakers input. Another end is 2 TS plugs for the GP-200 outputs. Some speakers may support 2 TS cables connection for left and right channels respectively.

  • GP-200 L(MONO) is connected to left main speaker, and then connected from the left main speaker to right speaker, why is there no sound from the right speaker?

The input of speakers is usually stereo, a TRS cable is required to transmit the sound of the left and right channels. If use a 6.35mm TS cable, which commonly used for guitars, the right channel cannot have the sound signal. Therefore, there is no sound from the right speaker.

  • What is the maximum output level of GP-200?

Unbalanced output level: +8 dBu (TS cable connection)

Balanced output level: +14 dBu (TRS cable connection)

  • Can GP-200 be used as a DI (Direct Inject)?

The GP-200 offers 6.35mm TRS balanced output that can be connected directly to mixers instead of DI via a 6.35mm TRS cable.

  • Can GP-200 connect a microphone, as a mic amp and vocal effect pedal?

The GP-200 does not have amplifier function and cannot be connected to conventional microphones such as dynamic microphones. Because conventional microphone signals are low-impedance and low-level, when connected to the GP-200, the input signal volume is very low, and if directly amplified, the background noise will be very high. When the microphone has a pre-amplifier, such as a wireless microphone, the wireless signal receiver may already convert the signal level to line level, which similar to a guitar signal, so this type of microphone can be connected to the GP-200 for use. When using as a vocal effect pedal, it is suggested to select "Line" Input for the best experience.

  • While using Logic to control GP-200 via MIDI, why the control is abnormal?

When creating a new "External MIDI" track in Logic to control the GP-200:Logic MIDI in port (MIDI IN) is "All" by default, which means This track accepts MIDI messages from all devices. Logic MIDI Destination is "GP-200", which is selected while creating the track. This means this track will send the MIDI messages to the GP-200. Logic MIDI track recording is turned on by default ("R" is red highlighted). This recording not only has a recording function for MIDI, but also a forwarding function.

  • What do I need to pay attention to for the MIDI connection of GP-200?

MIDI communication is one direction flow. While using a MIDI controller, it needs to connect the MIDI OUT of the MIDI controller, to MIDI IN of the GP-200. The MIDI OUT of the GP-200 is used to forward MIDI messages to the next MIDI device, such as other effect pedals. It is not necessary and cannot connect the MIDI OUT of the GP-200 back to the MIDI IN of the MIDI controller. One is that MIDI controllers usually do not require additional control from external devices. Second, this connection will cause MIDI messages to be continuously forwarded in the closed loop, resulting in abnormal control.

  • How does GP-200 forward MIDI messages?

Both MIDI OUT and USB OUT forward messages from MIDI IN and USB IN. For example, MIDI IN and USB IN receive message A and B respectively. MIDI OUT forwards messages A and B. USB OUT also forwards messages A and B. Please note that in "GLOBAL SETTINGS - MIDI - MIDI In Sources", we can select: "TRS Only, USB Only, Mixed". This selection does not affect the forwarding function. If "Mixed" is selected, the GP-200 forwards messages A and B and executes A and B. When "USB Only" is selected, the GP-200 still forwards messages A and B, but only executes B.

  • What MIDI cable does GP-200 need?

The GP-200 selects the 3.5mm TRS jack for MIDI communication. When selecting a MIDI cable, the jack of MIDI controller should be confirmed first. Most of which are standard MIDI 5-pin jack (DIN). Therefore, the GP-200 needs to a 3.5mm to MIDI (DIN) cable.

  • Can GP-200's footswitches be controlled by a MIDI controller?

All executable MIDI messages for the GP-200 are provided in Manual chapter "MIDI Control Information List". Most of the footswitches functions are available, but it cannot control the footswitches to execute their present function.

  • What MIDI messages can GP-200 execute?

In the GP-200 manual, there is a "MIDI Control Information List". All executable MIDI messages for the GP-200 are provided. Set the appropriate MIDI messages, then the MIDI controller can control the GP-200.

  • While connecting a dual footswitches device, why is only one footswitch workable?

The dual footswitches device requires a TRS cable, not a TS cable from guitar audio application. At the same time, please set "Dual FS".Setting: "GLOBAL SETTINGS - EXP 2/Footswitch - EXP/FS 1 (or 2) Mode", select "Dual FS".

  • Can GP-200 connect an expression pedal and an external footswitch(es) at the same time?

GP-200 offers 2 jacks for external devices (EXP/FS jacks), which can connect an expression pedal and an external footswitch(es) at the same time. Note: External footswitch(es) could be single footswitch type, or dual footswitch type.

  • Why did the expression pedal controlled parameter value change from 0 to 30, and finally become 0 again?

In a normal application, the expression pedal controlled parameter value will change from 0 to 100, with the pedal is fully lifted to fully pressed. However, instead of required 6.35mm TRS cable, if using a 6.35mm TS cable, which is commonly used for guitars, the connection of the expression pedal is abnormal, resulting in the control parameter value changing from 0 to 30, and finally becoming 0.Note: This change is based on the 10kΩ resistance expression pedal, different resistance value will change the maximum value, for example, it may not be 30, but 20.

  • Why failed in expression pedal calibration?

With a TRS polarity expression pedal, when failed in calibrating, please check the cable between pedal and GP-200. The TRS pedal needs a TRS cable, not a TS cable from guitar audio application. With a TS cable, the GP-200 could not get demanded feedback from the expression pedal, resulting in a calibration failure.

  • Why need to calibrate the expression pedals, even have the same resistance?

When the resistance value is different, the uncalibrated expression pedal will have abnormal control. For example, when the pedal is fully pressed, the target parameter value is not the maximum. Or the pedal is half pressed, the target parameter value is already the maximum, and the remaining travel is idle. When using the same resistance expression pedal, even the same brand and same model, the abnormal control will also occur. This anomaly is relatively small. It may be only 1 or 2 less than the maximum value when the pedal is fully pressed, or a little idle travel.

  • While using an expression pedal, what is the problem if not be calibrated?

Without calibrating, the expression pedal may have problems. One is idle travel. Another is that the value is not maximum, when pedal is fully pressed. In test, a 100kΩ expression pedal is calibrated. After changing to a 10kΩ pedal, when the pedal is fully pressed, the final value is only about 70% of the original. Conversely, a 10kΩ expression pedal is calibrated. After changing to a 100kΩ pedal, when the pedal is about half pressed, the value is already 100%.

  • What kind of expression pedal is suitable for GP-200?

The GP-200 needs an expression pedal with: TRS polarity, 10kΩ, 25kΩ, 50kΩ, or 100kΩ resistance. In first connection, please calibrate the expression pedal for the best experience.

  • Does GP-200 have Bypass function?

The GP-200 offers Bypass function, like a typical effect pedal. Please note that while in bypassing, the bypassed volume is still controlled by the MASTER volume knob. Also, please balance the volume of patch and bypass.

Setting: "GLOBAL SETTINGS - Footswitch", select the appropriate mode, and set the Bypass function to a footswitch.

  • Can I customize the footswitch function for GP-200?

Yes. All 4 footswitches can be customized to specify functions. Also, the GP-200 provides 3 configurable footswitch modes, which can be quickly switched to satisfy the needs of different scenarios.

  • While using looper, after switching the patch for different tone, why is the drum tempo also changed?

After switching patch, the drum tempo is changed, because the tempo synchronization function between drum and patch is turned on. The patch is for an audio work. Each work has its own tempo, so each patch has its own tempo. After turning on the synchronization function between drum and patch, the drum tempo will be consistent with the patch tempo. If not need it, the function could be turned off. Then the drum will keep its own tempo.

Setting: Press and hold "DRUM" to drum machine page, "Sync" could be found. Select "OFF" to turn off the synchronization function.

  • Does looper support automatic recording?

  • Does looper support drum machine synchronization?

Yes. GP-200 supports drum machine synchronization in looper. When it is turned on, GP-200 will match the next audio recording with the drum machine tempo. Please note that the matching is only in a small adjustment range. The recording should be followed the drum machine tempo, to avoid wrong matching. In addition, drum machine synchronization should be turned on before recording. The matching process cannot be applied on existing recording.

Setting: In looper status, click "Para" to page 2, "Sync" could be found. Select "ON" to turn on the drum machine synchronization function.

  • While using looper, can I use different patch to record different tone?

Yes. To record different tone, the recording point should be "Post" the patch.

Setting: In looper status, "Pre/Post" could be found on the first page, then select "Post".

  • While using looper, why is the "Undo/Redo" not workable?

While using the "Undo/Redo" function, 2 points should be checked:1, Need a short recording time . For "Pre" status, the "Rec Time" is 90s. For "Post" status, the "Rec Time" is 45s .The "Undo/Redo" function needs a Buffer track, which will cut the recording storage space into 2 tracks:The existingg track and Buffer track, which cuts the total time length into half.

2, Buffer track recording length should be less than Existing track. If Buffer track recording length is same as Existing track, recording of Buffer track will be automatically combined with Existing track. Then the tracks become: A new Existing track, and an empty Buffer track for new recording. At this point, "Undo/Redo" function is not available.

  • Can I adjust the recording volume for my smartphone?

Yes. GP-200 offers recording volume level adjustment function, with a range of ±20dB, to meet the needs of various recording scenarios.

Setting: "GLOBAL SETTINGS - USB Audio", "Rec Level" could be found, please select an appropriate value.

  • When recording the GP-200 drum machine (DRUM) on a smartphone, why does only one channel have the sound?

The GP-200 drum machine sound is a kind of effect sound, so when the left and right channels are selected "Dry", the drum machine may not be able to record. When one channel is "Dry", another is "Wet", only one channel can record the drum machine sound.

Setting: "GLOBAL SETTINGS - USB Audio - Rec Mode(L/R)", select "Wet".

  • While recording on a smartphone, can I record guitar (INPUT), drum machine (DRUM), and accompaniment (AUX IN) at the same time?

For this purpose, please set left/right channel as "Wet", and turn on the "AUX To USB".Setting: "GLOBAL SETTINGS - USB Audio - Rec Mode(L/R)", select "Wet". Click "PARA" to next page, "Aux To USB" could be found. Please select "ON".

  • Why is the sound recorded by smartphone different from what is heard during play and recorded by computer?

GP-200 normal mode is 6-In-4-Out. Some smartphones cannot support this, resulting in data abnormalities, such as GP-200 is unrecognized, sound stuttering, extra noise, etc. Please change to the traditional 2 In 2 Out mode, this problem would be solved.

Setting: "GLOBAL SETTINGS - USB Audio", click "PARA" to next page, "USB Mode" could be found. Please select "Legacy".

  • While using the smartphone's stock camera with GP-200, why does the sound still come from the built-in microphone of the phone?

Some smartphone stock camera apps support external devices. While connecting GP-200, the camera apps will automatically set GP-200 as the audio device by default, which means the recorded sound is from GP-200. However, some smartphone stock camera apps can only use the built-in audio device of the phone, and do not support to select other audio devices. Then, a 3rd-party camera app is required. Furthermore, some smartphones only support the traditional 2-In-2-Out audio device, then the mode "Legacy" should be selected.

  • Can I use GP-200 with my smartphone?

Yes. GP-200 could be used for smartphones, via a OTG cable. Some phones will be recognized and displayed as wired headphones, and some will not have a special icon. Some apps would provide the device selection function, for selecting GP-200, or the built-in audio device. Some apps would only use the external device by default, while detecting an external device. Some USB jacks of smartphone may not support Type C - Type C cable, please try the Type C - Type A OTG cable, with a Type A - Type C cable.
